LAHORE: The CNG stations in Punjab would not observe weekly holiday under the energy conservation programme of the government on Tuesday.
Briefing media at a local hotel on Monday, the All Pakistan CNG Association Chairman Ghayas Piracha said that the government would be held responsible for the circumstances created after it obstructed the gas supply to CNG stations.
The chairman claimed that the government had committed to observe this weekly load shedding of gas for the three months of winters. The chairman has shown distress over the prevailing situation.
Piracha said that the CNG industry, worth billions of rupees, was being ruined under a conspiracy and explaining that the closure of CNG stations would also reduce SNGPL revenues by up to 29 percent.
The chairman said that they had conveyed their concerns to the federal and provincial governments and had not received a positive response. The All Pakistan CNG Association has decided to put an end to CNG stations’ weekly holiday.
They strongly feel it’s unfair, as all the other provinces besides Punjab have obtained a stay order from the courts against the holiday.
The CNG Association is still prepared to sacrifice their gas share for generation of inexpensive electricity at a low tariff. Piracha also appealed to the CNG consumers to ensure their effective support to the All Pakistan CNG Association in this regard.
