Reference to be filed against Zulfiqar Mirza: Abid Sher Ali ISLAMABAD: Chairman standing committee on education Abid Sher Ali said that a reference against Sindh Home Minister Dr. Zulfiqar Mirza for harassing HEC Chairman Javed Laghari would be filed within two to three days.

He was talking to journalists at Lahore airport after coming back home from Dubai.

He said that degrees verification process was neither politically motivated nor it had any specific agenda against any political party, but Sindh Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza was harassing the upright HEC chairman.

HEC should be allowed to do its work with complete freedom and political figure should not utilize tactics to pressurize the commission to restrict degrees verification process, Abid Sher Ali said.

Pakistan denounces US intel leaks as ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Monday denounced leaked US intelligence reports accusing its premier spy agency of supporting Taliban insurgents as "skewed" and inconsistent with realities on the ground.

Tens of thousands of documents dating from 2004 to 2009 were released by whistleblowers' website Wikileaks to the New York Times, Britain's Guardian newspaper and Germany's Der Spiegel weekly.

"These are far-fetched and skewed reports, evidently inconsistent with ground realities," foreign ministry spokesman Abdul Basit said.

"If anything these betray the lack of understanding of the complexities involved".

"Pakistan's constructive and positive role in Afghanistan cannot be blighted by such self-serving and baseless reports," Basit added.

Thunderstorm, rain likely across country ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Monday forecast scattered thunderstorm rain across country during the next 24 to 36 hours.

According to met analysis, low pressure area is lying over North Bay of Bengal and under the influence of this system, strong monsoon currents are expected to penetrate in Pakistan from today.

This low pressure area is likely to approach southern parts of the country on Tuesday which will cause scattered rains during the next 24 to 48 hours.

In Khyber Pukhtoonkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan, scattered thunderstorm and rain is expected during the next two days.

Thundershower may also occur at scattered places in Southeastern Sindh and eastern parts of Balochistan during the next 24 hours.

According to Flood Forecasting Division's report, River Kabul at Nowshera is in medium flood, while River Indus at Chashma, Taunsa, Guddu and River Ravi at Balloki are in low flood.

The rainfall recorded during last 24 hours was Kotli 55 mm, Jhelum 30 mm, Shinkiari 21 mm, Mangla 09 mm, Mandibahauddin 5 mm, Chhor, Mithi and Muzaffarabad 3 mm (each) and Parachinar 2 mm.

Policemen among seven killed in Nowshera suicide blast NOWSHERA: At least seven people including three police personnel were killed and 20 others injured in a suicide explosion outside the residence of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s provincial Information Minister Mian Iftikhar.

It should be mentioned here that the Information Minister’s son Mian Rashid Hussain was killed on Saturday, who was laid to rest yesterday.

According to sources, there were people at his residence in his native Pabbi area of Khan Sher Gharhi at the time of blast to offer condolences to the minister. However, the minister and his family remained unhurt in the attack.

A suicide bomber tried to force into the house; on the occasion following the burial of Mian Rashid Sunday, heavy contingents of police were deployed to fend off any potential threat to law and order.

On being intercepted by a police personnel, the bomber blew him up killing several on the spot and injuring many others.

The injured have been a local hospital in Pabbi and some of them are being transported to Lady Reading Hospital.

Police officials said a suspected car is also found near the house of Mian Iftikhar. Bomb disposal squad has been called for the checking of the car.

Five dead in Noshehra suicide blast NOSHEHRA: At least five people including three police personnel were killed and ten others injured in a powerful explosion outside the residence of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s provincial Information Minister Mian Iftikha.

It should be mentioned here that the Information Minister’s son Mian Rashid Hussain was killed on Saturday, who was laid to rest yesterday.

According to initial report, the blast is being said to be suicidal.

According to sources, there were people at his residence in his native Pabbi area of Khan Sher Gharhi at the time of blast to offer condolences to the minister. However, the minister was not present there at the time. He was receiving condolences from the people at a Degree College in the area. Fateha Khawni was arranged for women at home.
