BIRMINGHAM: Pakistan captain Salman Butt won the toss and elected to bat against England in the second Test at Edgbaston here on Friday.

England were unchanged from the team that beat Pakistan by the huge margin of 354 runs in the first Test of a four-match series at Trent Bridge on Sunday.

Pakistan made two changes. They dropped experienced wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal, who missed several chances at Trent Bridge and was twice out for nought, and gave a Test debut to 24-year-old gloveman Zulqarnain Haider.

ISLAMABAD: The Managing Director of Utility Stores Corporation Muhammad Arif said subsidy of Rs 3 billion would be given at different edible items during the month of Ramzan.While talking to Geo News, Muhammad Arif said that every will get at least 5 kg sugar at subsidies rates. Replying to a question, MD Utility Stores said utility stores will provide maximum facility to public during Ramzan.

High flood at Guddu Barrage KARACHI: The water level at Guddu Barrage is persistently surging , as the floodwater inundated school, mosque and several houses in the village abutting the Barrage, Geo News reported Friday.

Flood tide with 9,62,000 cusecs of water is raging from Guddu Barrage. The water pressure increased at Qadirpur loop embankment, in Ghotki, KK and Tori embankments in Kashmore, Aqil Agahi and Nusrat loop embankments in Larkana and Faridabad and Al Raja Gajeer embankments in Khairpur.

Red alert has been declared at sensitive embankments. More than 9,62,000 cusecs passing through Guddu Barrage whereas officials of Pak Army, Rangers and irrigation departments started strengthening Qadirpur loop embankment as water pressure increases on constant basis. At 7, 80,000 cusecs floodwaters is expected in Larkana later today where army jawans deputed at Nusrat and Aqil Agani loop embankments. On the other hand, evacuation of locals is underway from Katcha area to safer places.

Seven more gunned down in Karachi target killing KARACHI: Seven more people were shot dead in different areas of Karachi since last night that brings the number of toll to 92.

At least 92 people have been killed and more than 230 wounded in violent incidents erupted from Monday. Several houses, shops and a factory were also set ablaze by unknown persons on Thursday night.

The killings reported in Baldia Town, Machar Colony, Korangi quarters, Eid Gah, Ibrahim Haidri and Orangi Town areas whereas situation remained tense in Qasba Colony, Orangi Town, Pirabad, Aligarh Bazar and Kati Pahari areas.
