ISLAMABAD: Indus River System Authority (IRSA) has resolved to release additional 10,000 cusecs water to Punjab from Chashma Link Canal despite Federal and Sindh governments raised strong objections to the decision, Geo news reported.
IRSA officials held meeting with acting chairman and member from Punjab province Shafqat Masood in chair here in Islamabad on Tuesday.
The only representative from federal government who attended the meeting was Bashir Ahmed Dahir while a member from Sindh Khan Memon and from Balochistan Mohammed Ameen could not be present on the occasion on being on vacations.
A member from Pakhtoonkkhwah province and the reigned chairman were both absent from meeting too.
During the meeting, the federal member Bashir Ahmed Dahir raised objection over release of 10,000 cusecs water to Punjab from Chashma Link Canal, saying that Chashma Link Canal should not be opened due to low water level in Tarbela Dam.
However, acting chairman Shafqat Massod, using his powers, resolved to release Punjab additional 10,000 cusecs water from Chashma Link Canal and all the same, issued WAPDA directives to immediately put the decision into practice.
