Drama "Zeenat Binte Sakina Haazir Ho" on geo tv
Zeenat Binte Sakina Haazir Ho
Based on a series of true incidents, this serial is a love story set against the backdrop of Pakistan’s prevailing feudal system. The serial also lays bare the country’s volatile political scenario and questions the many human rights movements that are running within it.
The story revolves around Shumaila and Bilal, two star-crossed lovers whose eventual love marriage sets of a chain of high-profile and politically motivated events. Angry at their marrying of their own accord, certain elements from both the couple’s families try to twist things around so that Bilal is eventually accused of kidnapping Shumaila and committing Zina. From here on starts the couple’s suffering, as they become victims of a viscous cycle of political conspiracy and family politics. Shumaila and Bilal are forced to part, as she is taken captive in an isolated part of the country and his life is in danger because certain ‘elements’ want to kill him for the ‘sin’ he has supposedly committed. While the country’s media and human rights movements do hype up the case, they of course only do so as a way of achieving high ratings and extra funding, leaving the couple as alone and helpless as ever. In a gripping climax, Shumaila is almost made to bow to pressure from her captives to go against Bilal in court. She resists, only to find Bilal himself bowing down to pressure by claiming that he never married Shumaila after all. The question is, that has Bilal really bowed down to pressure, or is his statement just part of the plan to get himself and his wife out of this grueling situation.
A serial that is based for the most part on true stories and has been filmed in real locations including Sukkur, Karachi, Jamshoro, Rahim Yar Khan and Pir Jo Goth. Almost all judicial proceedings and judges remarks have been taken from real life cases, and just serve to highlight how common the story is for couples who marry of their own free will.
This is one serial, which is deeply rooted in Pakistan’s current socio-cultural context and comments on the many drawbacks and flaws that stem from the country’s feudal culture.
