SC orders to resend NRO summary to PM

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court has directed law ministry to resend a summary of implementation of NRO verdict to Prime Minister.
In a hearing of a case about implementation of NRO verdict, the apex court has ordered law ministry to resend a summary to Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani. The court said law secretary will be summon in the court if the summary could not be send to Prime Minister. Later, the hearing has been adjourned till July 12.
Earlier, a bench of Supreme Court headed by Justice Nasirul Mulk heard the case of appointment and promotion of Ahmad Riaz Sheikh in FIA. Prime Minister secretariat presented another report regarding identification of those responsible for the issue. However, no one was point out in the report.
On the query of the apex court, additional attorney general informed the court apparently selection board held responsible in the new report. The court adjourned the hearing till Monday.
PM chairs high-level meeting

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani is chairing a high level meeting to chalk out anti-terror strategy.
Chief ministers of Punjab,Balochistan and Sindh, provincial home ministers, chief secretaries, and heads of police and intelligence agencies are attending the meeting underway at the PM Secretariat.
Information Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhaw Mian Iftikhar attending the meeting in place of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhaw who missed the meeting due to health problem.
The meeting has been convened in the aftermath of the twin suicide blasts at the shrine of Data Darbar in Lahore. The meeting would thoroughly review the security situation and more stern steps are likely to be taken to curb militancy.
Punjab: Outlawed outfits under new names banned

LAHOREC: Punjab Home Department has banned the organizations which operating under new names in the province after being declared outlawed.
According to a statement issued by the Home Department, the government has banned 23 organizations whose 1690 office bearers’ names appear in the 4th Schedule.
The statement said Sipah-e-Sahaba has been operating under a new name Millat-e-Islamia Pakistan; Jaish-e-Muhammad under Khadam-ul-Islam and; Tehreek-e-Jafria Islami under a new name Tehreek-e-Pakistan.
It, however, clarified no such ban has been imposed on Jamat-ud-Dawa.
Committee constituted to probe Data Darbar blasts

LAHORE: Government of Punjab has constituted a committee to probe Data Darbar blasts and submit its report within three days. Additional IG Haji Habibur Rehman will head the enquiry committee.
Police sources said DIG Dr. Shoaib Dastagir is also a part of the committee. The committee will record the statements of management of Data Darbar, local SP, DSP, SHO and police personnel deployed at Data Darbar at the time of incident.
The committee in its report will present its report to Punjab Chief Minister within three days.

Four drown on Sandspit

KARACHI: At least four people drowned while swimming at Sandspit beach of Karachi today; however, another one has been rescued, Geo News reported Sunday.
A holiday once again proved disastrous to some families, when their four members lost their lives, while having fun at Karachi beach of Sandspit.
According to details, some people from Nazimabad went to Sandspit beach for picnic this morning. At least four people drowned in sea and one has been rescued. Three others are still unaccounted for. Navy divers are searching for the missing.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred at 10am, after which the lifeguards present there rescued 17-year Omar, resident of New Alfalah. Omar’s friend is still missing.
Two people Bilal and Zafar from Manzoor Colony and Golimar also drowned and went missing; search for them is still on.
The mourning families said relief activities are not up to mark, adding there were no lifeguards on the spot.
When contacted, the lifeguards said Section-144 is in place thanks to the high tide from May to September; but, the people don’t accede to comply with the restriction.

Sino-Pak N-deal meets int’l obligations: China

WASHINGTON: Chinese Embassy in Washington said Sunday, China believes that its agreement to install two new nuclear reactors in Pakistan does not violate international obligations, Geo news reported.
In a statement to the US media, the embassy’s spokesman Wang Baodong told the US media Beijing is convinced the reactor agreement “goes along well with the international obligations China and Pakistan carry in relation to the international nuclear non-proliferation regime”.
A US expert, Mark Hibbs of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, endorsed the Chinese position but urged Beijing to be careful.
“The US doesn’t really have any options.....the Nuclear Suppliers Group’s guidelines are voluntary. There is nothing the US can do to prevent China from going ahead with this deal,” he said.
“Unless Washington comes up with a very, very attractive offer, the history of Chinese-Pakistani relations is such that it is unlikely that this deal will not go through,” Heritage Foundation researcher Dean Cheng told the US media.
A State Department official disagreed with the suggestion but did so rather meekly.
The United States “suspects” that China would need a waiver from a nuclear export control group to move ahead with the sale of two atomic energy plants to Pakistan, a department official told the Washington Times.

Woman, daughter publicly tortured in Muzaffargarh

MUZAFFARGARH: A poor woman and her 12-year-old daughter were allegedly made undressed and tortured publicly on Saturday evening, Geo news reported.
Sources said the barbaric accused suspected that the son of that woman had maintained some illicit relations with his (suspect’s) daughter.
Meanwhile, former area councilor and eyewitnesses have confirmed occurrence of torture on woman and her young daughter after making duo naked in public through use of force.
Police sources claimed issuance of medical checkup for both ladies to determine the truthfulness of their allegations through a medical report.
Subsequently, an FIR will be lodged against the alleged suspect in light of the said medical report, police said further.
Meanwhile, the accused, while defying charges leveled upon him, said the matter was of the distribution of water, which has also rendered my friend injured.

Rehman denies barring intel sharing

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rehman Malik Saturday has rejected Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif's blame that his province was being denied intelligence sharing from federal intelligence agencies.
I will resign if it was proved that I stopped intelligence sharing and challenged CM Punjab to resign if proved wrong, Rehman said.
He vowed to continue the policy of reconciliation

LAHORE: PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif has condemned the recent statements issued from the Center after the suicide attacks on Data Darbar against the Punjab.
He was addressing a press conference here today. He suggested that we need to adopt strategies as formulated by UK-USA to fight terror and we should be proactive. The government did not tasked parliamentary committee to suggest ways to curb this menace.
Punjab CM has been asked to establish counter-terrorism force, he told media men. PML-N ready to organize national conference on this issue to evolve a consensus, concerned Nawaz said.
Nawaz supported talks with those Taliban who agree to negotiate.

Altaf for establishing 'Haq Parast' army to fight terror

KARACHI: Chief of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Altaf Hussain, said attack on the shrine of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh (Data Darbar) in Lahore on Thursday night was an attack on humanity.
Altaf expressed these views during his telephonic address from London. He suggested that people should develop a private security culture in the country for their safety. He called for establishing 'Haq Parast' army to fight terror.
MQM Chief urged people to remain vigilant against suspected people in their vicinity.
Altaf reiterated that his party would continue to work for bringing peace and stability in the country, adding that he has been warning of terror threats since long.
He directed the people to remain vigilant of any plot against the country.
